New signings set to make their debuts
THE majority of Colwyn Bay's new signings will be making their Llanelian Road debuts in Friday's (July 10) opening pre-season friendly against Welsh Premier champions Rhyl (7.30pm).
The only one unlikely to be involved is Anthony Sheehan who is nursing a knock picked up in training. Rob Hopley (holidays) and Tim Brandreth (wedding) are both unavailable while Chris Sanna is still away coaching in America so Farai Jackson will be in goal.
Those who will also be involved include former Wrexham and Wolves midfielder Jimmy Kelly, who agreed terms with the club this week, while former Rhyl, Cammell Laird and Caersws centre half Matthew Holt has joined the squad on trial.
The Bay squad completed their preparations for the game in training on Thursday night (July 9) and the manager knows it will be a tough first game for the players.
"Rhyl have already had a couple of good wins under their belts as they prepare for their big game against Partizan Belgrade next Tuesday so it will be a big test for us, but at the moment it is all about getting minutes on the pitch for the players as we build for the new season."
The manager added he felt his team rebuilding was now almost complete with ex-Wigan Athletic striker James Dunne and former Tranmere reserve defender Luke Denson signing this week.
ON a personal note I would like to thank everybody for their best wishes after I ridiculously joined the club's broken leg club last weekend.
After playing the game for years without serious injury, how ironic I break my leg while watching a training match!
Basically my standing foot slipped from under me as I kicked a stray ball to Farai Jackson and I felt my leg snap as I went down.
Neil, Gary, the players and local groundsman Tommy McGann were absolutely fantastic and I can't thank them enough for all their help in getting me to hospital and getting my car back home.
The surgeon who operated on me on Sunday says everything went well and I should be up and around fairly quickly so hopefully it won't be long before I am back up at Llanelian Road.
In the meantime I plan to continue to provide Neil Young's thoughts on how the pre-season games progress and any latest teams news he has to report via this blog.
