Jackson in goal for opening league game

By Tim Channon on Aug 14, 09 12:33 PM

FARAI JACKSON has fully recovered from a hamstring injury and will play in goal in place of suspended Chris Sanna for Colwyn Bay's opening league game against FC Halfiax Town on Saturday (August 15, 3pm).
Halifax who are favourites to finish Unibond Division One champions are expecting to bring a big following to boost what should be a bumper opening day gate at Llanelian Road.
And Bay manager Neil Young believes the game will be a good guide to his own side's hopes of mounting a promotion challenge.
"We could only have had one more difficult opening game - and that would have been Halifax away," joked Young.
"They have a new manager, a big following, the resources to be able to bring in new players from higher divisions and are favourites with the bookies to be champions.
"But we also have a much stronger squad than last season, with a lot more options and more technical ability. The lads we had last year, not taking anything away from them, worked their socks off and you could never question their endeavour, but hopefully this year, alongside that endeavour, we've got more technically gifted footballers who have played at a higher level and have the experience to mount a challenge in this league.
"As I said, we could not have been given a much tougher opening game, but there should be a good crowd with good home support and we'll be prepared as well as we can be.
"What we must not forget is that this is only the first game in a long season and Saturday is not the be all and end all. But it will be a good guide to where we are and where we need to be to be challenging with Halifax at the top come the end of the season."
Lee Davey (holiday) and James Dunne (exams) are also unavailable along with Sanna, who is serving a one match suspension held over from last season, but the rest of squad are in contention for the 16 man squad to be named prior to kick off, including former Everton youth team and Cefn Druids forward Kevin Holsgrove whose signing was completed earlier this week.
Colwyn Bay (from) Jackson, Sheehan, Corrigan, Scott, Jarrett, Brandreth, Challinor, Aspinall, Sheridan, Jebb, Kelly, Hopley, Holsgrove, Clampitt, Hay, Williams, Denson, Hammond, McGill.
