Challinor lays down challenge
COLWYN BAY manager Dave Challinor has laid down a challenge to his side ahead of Wednesday's league clash against FC United of Manchester at Gigg Lane (Feb 2).
Although the Seagulls have not played a league game for over two weeks due to the weather, other results have gone in their favour and they go into Wednesday's game still second in the table.
"Other results have certainly gone our way over the last fortnight with potential rivals dropping crucial points and it is up to us now to make the most of that and take care of our own business," said Challinor.
"Having played FC United twice already this season we know their strengths and weaknesses and we will go to Gigg Lane with confidence high. But we may need to adapt to what could be a difficult surface and make sure that we play to the top of our game to get a result."
Victory would put Colwyn Bay three points clear of the chasing pack ahead of a huge game at home to top-six rivals Worksop Town on Saturday.
Colwyn Bay beat FC United 3-1 at home in November and although they lost 2-1 at Gigg Lane in the FA Trophy the previous month, the Seagulls were unlucky that day, hitting the frame of the goal three times and having another effort cleared off the line.
Challinor will need to give late fitness checks to skipper Damien Allen and defender Danny Meadowcroft, who have both been receiving treatment for injuries over the past week, but he is hopeful both will be fit to be included - along with new signing Aaron Rey who will be hoping to make his league debut.
They will be without Sam Bailey, however, who has gone on loan to Newtown to get some games, although Dave Challinor says he has an agreement that he can recall the player at any time should he be needed. The same applies to Alex Titchiner and Joe O'Sullivan who are at Witton and Andy Metcalf at Flint.
