Newby signs Shelton Payne
COLWYN BAY player-boss Jon Newby has secured the signing of young forward Shelton Payne from Chorley.
The 22-year-old Welshman, who was born in Cardiff and has had spells at Cardiff City and Blackburn Rovers, has recently been on loan at Blue Square North leaders Hyde where he scored three goals in five appearances, and impressed when Hyde narrowly beat Colwyn Bay 3-2 in November.
Payne has been in dispute at Chorley and on the transfer list at his own request. He was even threatening to hang up his boots for the rest of the season if the Lancashire club refused to release him.
Chorley manager Garry Flitcroft signed Payne from Trafford, after he had scored 15 goals in 27 appearances following his release by Blackburn.
He can play on either wing or down the middle and Colwyn Bay will see him as a great replacement for Danny Lloyd who recently signed full-time for Lincoln City.
"Shelton has signed all the papers and we are just waiting for Chorley to confirm they have cancelled his contract so he can play for us at Eastwood on Saturday," reported Newby.
Chorley have now made that confirmation and Shelton is a Colwyn Bay player.
