Moans, groans, and Katherine Jenkins

Thursday morning brings complaints (usually unjustified), the occasional rant, a glow of pride and a new beginning.
As one deadline passes the clock ticks and work begins on the next edition, but this week I spent more time answering calls than any other, and it wasn't because of my controversial MRSA splash.

I'd placed a Katherine Jenkins ticket competition on page 31 and asked readers to call with the answer to an extremely simple question: Where is Katherine Jenkins from?
Simple enough, except I, assuming we may get the occasional phonecall, requested people contact us between noon and 1pm, and was then forced to pick up the phone at least three times a minute for the next 60.
As were my colleagues, people in other departments, and the poor receptionists, who, like me, were the bearers of bad news on at least a hundred occasions because I was only giving away three pairs of tickets in the first place.
Still, at least it shows people are reading the paper!
