Ch-ch-ch-changes

IT'S been quite a challenge this week, not because there's been too much to do, but rather because there hasn't been enough! This week's edition is slimmer than usual, principally because advertising volume falls around Christmas as advertisers prefer to save their cash to plug their New Year wares. And if there are fewer adverts, there are fewer pages, resulting in this week's modest edition.

The challenge this week was that despite the page count dropping, our reporters had loads of stories and pictures to get in the paper - but where to put it all?
Luckily, Editorial has a sneaky trick up its sleeve in times like this - change-pages! The Weekly News has three weekly editions - one covering Llanfairfechan across to Llandudno and Conwy, the Conwy Valley edition and the Bay of Colwyn edition.
Because we have essentially three different newspapers to produce every week, we can have three different versions of any one page. So this week we have crammed even more news into the paper for your money.
For instance, if you pick up the Conwy Valley edition this week and turn to page 12 you'll get pictures of both Llanrwst and Betws-y-Coed's Christmas window competition winners, as well as pictures of Ysgol Dolgarrog's Nativity and T'yn-y-Groes Thespians' production of Nell and the Pirates.
But if you pick up the General edition you'll have a photo from Ysgol Deganwy's Christmas concert, the story of a pharmacist struck off for stealing pills from Superdrug in Llandudno, and a report of an Old Colwyn man jailed for attacking his ex-partner.
Now, if I hadn't decided to change page 12 for all editions, half of those stories wouldn't have made it, and there might have been some very disappointed schoolchildren. Perhaps the ex-pharmacist and the jailed Old Colwyn man wouldn't have been so upset, but it's important to get this news in as well!
The change-page format affects more than just page 12 this week, so be sure to pick up the edition that covers the area you're most interested in, or you might miss out. And if you have an interest in everywhere, there's always our website where you can catch up on the news from other areas.
By the way, whichever edition you buy, be sure to enter our competition to win a crate of beer or a bottle of licquer - we'd love our readers to have a drink on us this Christmas!
Next week's Weekly News is out a day later than usual, on Friday 29th, and then we're back to the usual Thursday in the New Year.
A very merry Christmas to all our readers, and a prosperous 2007 from all at the Weekly News!
