What an experience!

I HAVE thoroughly enjoyed my week's work experience with the editorial section of the Weekly News, and I'm really quite sad to have to leave.

I am currently working in the Advertising section for all of the Trinity Mirror papers in North Wales, including the Weekly News, which I enjoy. However, I really wanted to have an insight in the Editorial section, as the creative element is really what appeals to me.

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect or what tasks were involved when I started my week. However, making tea and coffee was the least of the things I had to do. I've been shown real guidance and kindness from the team at the Weekly News and have learnt a great deal in such a short time.

My review of the local band Starlight Fix was a real challenge to me as heavy metal isn’t really my preferred genre, being a bit of a pop and cheese queen! However, I saw beyond that and wrote a favourable review of the band.

The next task was to write a light-hearted story about a "memory pad" system which stops men forgetting their partner's special dates. I thoroughly enjoyed this as I got to ring up and speak to people about their views, especially as Valentine's Day is only round the corner.

My favourite piece by far had to be "Llanrwst's Answer to Lassie", all about a really pleasant local gentleman whose recovered RSPCA dog Chip found an expensive camera and a mobile phone while out walking - a real heart warmer!

I would recommend anyone to come to the North Wales Weekly News for work experience - it has been extremely valuable to me, as it has intensified my passion of hopefully one day becoming a reporter.

Editor's note: The Weekly News cannot always guarantee work placement, and can only take on people aged 18 or above for health and safety and insurance reasons. To apply, e-mail The Newsdesk.
