In my short time as a trainee reporter I've attended numerous town and community council meetings, and I've also attended the odd Conwy County Council planning meeting - all great sources of stories, plus the odd amusing titbits when a councillor speaks out of turn!
I attended a Conwy cabinet meeting yesterday with my deputy news editor, and boy do they go on, and boy do they bite the hand that feeds them too!

SINCE the new retail park opened at Llandudno last October, there's been great interest in the resort as North Wales's premier shopping hub.
Sure, there are drawbacks to having a brand new glossy retail park - just ask the small retailers on Upper Mostyn Street - but by and large the interest and added footfall Parc Llandudno brings to the town can only be for the good in the long run.

LLANDUDNO Cricket club took the game by storm last year, winning the Welsh Cup for the first time in their history as well being crowned North Wales Premier League champions for the second time in three years.
And the club's Australian-born Director of Cricket Steve Smith says the club is looking to dominate the game for the next four of five years under the new captaincy of 20-year-old Aled Williams.

TO BE a good journalist I think one of the main qualities you have to have is a natural sense of curiosity.
Reporting for the Weekly News means I have to be endlessly inquisitive when talking to people from all walks of life, whether talking to a politician, an actor or somebody who is just organising a coffee morning.

No one ever said it was going to be easy being a journalist, but I can't believe just how hard it is being a trainee reporter sometimes.
For example, in my quest to become a fully qualified reporter over the last two months I've had to juggle weekly shorthand classes along with a six-day law course - both of which have exams at the end - at the same time as covering my patch and searching for some interesting Conwy Valley stories before our weekly deadline.

WE enjoy holding councils, health trusts and the like to account. The Welsh Assembly and the Government as well come to that.
And they don’t like it, all too often using the cost of bureaucracy as a means of halting journalistic investigation.

I'M only a nipper when it comes to having a career in journalism. My first paid day in work as a full-time newspaper reporter was only in August 1997 - many of the more experienced people I work alongside on the Weekly News were probably counting their carriage clocks by then!
But when I look back on how life on the Weekly News has changed in just 10 years, it astonishes me.
