Counting the cost of our county councillors

THIS week we are printing details of which of our esteemed county councillors claim the most in travel and hotel/ meal expenses, as well as the ten highest paid.
We do this every year, but it's not the Weekly News that prints the figures out of devilment to annoy the councillors - the authority makes them public itself, and publishes the full rundown on its website and in its latest bulletin.

IT'S all been happening this week, and not in the way we'd like. One of the worst aspects of reporting on local news is when that local news is particularly unpleasant or tragic, and that happened this week with the sad loss of little Sean Laxen in the fast-flowing waters of the River Conwy near Betws-y-Coed.
Trying to be everywhere at once

At the height of summer - well, what summer we've had so far - the Weekly News swaps its regular School Report coverage for that of village fetes, carnivals, prom days, festivals and fairs. There are so many events in communities right across Conwy over the summer that it can be hard to keep up with them.
